One 100 sheet composition book

One portfolio folder with three prongs and side pockets. 

Plenty of pens, pencils, and a red pen (pink, purple, etc. is fine)

Your English writing Common Assessment is this week. Please review your study guide (given on Monday Nov. 16th), re-read the texts or notes taken for all three texts, and the essay format. Get plenty of rest each night. Demonstrate your knowledge and pass this test! :)

 

If you still have pending questions, do not hesitate to ask.

Unit II Quiz#2: academic terms, text-dependent questions about the 3 readings ( Malala's Dream, The Moustache, and The House on Mango Street), and responding to a prompt using a FLEE map (graphic organizer).

 

Please note: tutoring is available in the school's library at 8 AM on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the week.

Complete the KIM vocabulary sheet for the short story "The Moustache". Remember to use context clues to figure out the meaning of the word as it is used in the text. Then, verify its meaning with the use of a dictionary. 

 

All parts of the KIM sheet should be completed. No incomplete work is accepted nor given partial credit. 

Read the story "The Moustache" This short story is in your literature book. Write one paragraph to anwer the following prompt:

 

Make sure to use the body paragraph format. Refer to the notes in your English composition notebook. 

Reread Mulala's Dream and answer the text-dependent-questions given in class. Each response should be written with complete sentences and proper citations. Remember to explain your response thoroughly (elaborate).

Academic terms quiz

Study your academic terms. Use the index cards that you created last week. First academic words quiz is on Friday October 16th.

Composition notebook check. 

Reference the checklist that was given to you in class. The organization of this book should reflect the assignments and notes completed in class for Unit 1.

Using your academic words, create study index cards for each word. Each word should be written on separate 3x5 index cards with the definition on one side and the word on the opposite side of the same card.

Study these words daily (weekly quiz)!

Note: If you do not have access to index cards, then you can make your own by simply cutting sturdy paper into 3 inches by 5 inches. Otherwise, you may ask me for some. :)

Using the study guide prepared in class, set aside 30 minutes each night and review your notes. The test will begin on Wednesday and end on Friday. Get plenty of sleep and a healthy meal. Good luck.
